The Over 55 Crowd Increasingly Internet Active
A recent study has found that the 55 and over crowd in the UK are increasingly Internet Active, with 90% now feeling comfortable surfing the net. Most use it for email, but an increasing number are also making purchases online. Not surprisingly the usage numbers decline significantly when looking at the 65 and older crowd.
Of course training is one of the key needs for getting older folks and those less exposed to Web culture online. And like other late adopter groups, particularly minority and underserved communities, the cost of broadband is another significant barrier. Many older folks simply don't see a computer and broadband as an investmen that will add singificant value to their lives. And why should they?
