I recently came across
Building 43, a new crowdsourcing site that purports to help small business folks learn how to leverage Web 2.0. It's a great watering hole for the technically inclined (and able) but once again presumes a certain level of literacy and technical expertise.
I know a number of new entrepreneurs from low income communities that could benefit tremendously from this type of assistance. And even learning to use tools like Google Apps as a platform to run a business online, would be a real coup for many (presuming you have a reliable Internet connection and customers who are also online). But most of these folks wouldn't know where to begin with Building 43. It's too techie and would be tough for someone to navigate if they don't know what they need.
So hats off to the Building 43 for providing a valuable service to business folks, but we still need a Building 43 in the projects...and not just downtown.
